S-910 Lower Quadrant Dry Needling = 23.5 hours

Dry Needling (DN) is a powerful, adjunctive tool for the orthopaedic manual physical therapist. This course is designed to bridge the gap between DN theory to how this tool can be integrated into clinical practice seamlessly by presenting a case based approach to DN with an emphasis on clinical reasoning in order to provide first time exposure and education to clinicians on DN as well as review and improve effective technique with clinicians currently utilizing DN.

Participants will cover the most commonly implicated muscles involved with frequently encountered lower quadrant musculoskeletal dysfunctions. With concerns about complications from the invasive nature of dry needling, ample amount of lab time will be spent on surface anatomy and palpation to ensure accurate location of relevant regional anatomy and safety of technique.

Manual Therapy for the Sports Physical Therapist = 14 hours

This comprehensive, clinically based course focuses on manual therapy and exercise for sports rehabilitation of the upper and lower extremities. Participants will gain confidence in diagnosing various sports injuries, understand loads on the body, and appreciate the anatomy and function of different structures. The hands-on training emphasizes subjective and objective assessments and the design of tailored rehabilitation and in-season manual therapy programs for common upper and lower limb sports injuries, all backed by the latest research. Spinal manipulation, cupping, dry needling, mobilizations, dynamic mobility drills are all included. By course completion, attendees will be well-prepared to apply evidence-based practices, facilitating athletes’ safe return to play.

C-715 Advanced Upper Quadrant Integration = 56 hours

This course offers advanced clinical reasoning skills, developing skills to move beyond an initial patho-anatomical hypothesis toward a detailed exploration of the etiology behind the diagnosis in upper quadrant patient presentations. Complex, multi-region patient/client problems of the neuromusculoskeletal system will be analyzed in an instructor specific methodology, based methodology. Management will focus on a multi-faceted approach encompassing manual therapy, neurophysiological techniques, and various other management approaches.

Focus of course: To facilitate an independent course, but also retain the concepts of regional inter-dependence, the faculty will primarily focus on the following regions in this class.

Part A: Advanced clinical reasoning of upper quadrant. Focus: head, neck, TMJ, elbow/forearm/wrist

Part B: Advanced clinical reasoning of upper quadrant. Focus: Thoracic, ribs, shoulder/shoulder girdle, CTJ.

C-416 Screening for Cervical Spine Pathology for Occupational Therapists = 21 hours

This course is case based addressing patho-anatomy, and clinical recognition patterns of the cervical spine. Clinical presentation of each condition is highlighted and organization of knowledge is taught so that an OT may arrive at a sound clinical impression of the cervical spine as a potential pain generator of the upper quadrant. The OT based on the information from the examination may choose to treat the patient or refer to a physical therapist.

Overhead athletes require special characteristics to allow them the mobility and stability to perform their sport. There are considerable anatomical and biomechanical kinetic chain concepts that professionals must understand to treat these athletes appropriately. C-720 Advanced Clinical Reasoning = 21 hours

Advanced and efficient levels of clinical reasoning are vital to a clinician’s ability to manage the complex, integrated patient presentations. This course forms the foundation for and/or builds on, and reinforces, concepts and materials presented in the advanced NAIOMT 705, 715 and 725 courses. A Manual Therapy Approach through Pregnancy and Beyond [Virtual] = 14 hours

During pregnancy up to 2/3 of women will experience low back pain, pelvic pain, pubic pain or a combination of all three. Physical therapy can be very effective for managing these pregnancy related symptoms. Pelvic Health Implications for the Running Athlete = 15 hours

Running is a complex biomechanical process which can be derailed by pelvic floor dysfunction. This course will utilize case-based instruction to develop advanced evidence-informed spinal manipulation/thrust skills within a comprehensive and contemporary manual physical therapy approach to specific health condition scripts of the lumbar spine, thoraco-lumbar junction, and pelvic girdle regions. S-910 Lower Quadrant Dry Needling = 23.5 hours

Dry Needling (DN) is a powerful, adjunctive tool for the orthopaedic manual physical therapist. This course is designed to bridge the gap between DN theory to how this tool can be integrated into clinical practice seamlessly by presenting a case based approach to DN with an emphasis on clinical reasoning in order to provide first time exposure and education to clinicians on DN as well as review and improve effective technique with clinicians currently utilizing DN.

Participants will cover the most commonly implicated muscles involved with frequently encountered lower quadrant musculoskeletal dysfunctions. The purpose of this course is to discuss the assist the manual therapist in differential diagnosis of common vestibular conditions to assist in proper patient management.  It will focus on an understanding of anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system in preparation of performing an oculomotor exam.  Using the oculomotor exam finding to differentiate between central and peripheral conditions and deciding when to refer to a medical provider for further testing.  Clinicians will be exposed to common peripheral vestibular conditions and the most commonly used treatment choices based on current best evidence.

Course Description:
This course focuses on cardio-pulmonary conditions and their influence on OMPT.  Participants will be exposed to online learning experiences that will develop their skill and abilities in dealing with patients with cardio-pulmonary conditions – their definitions, causes and management.  In particular, participants will develop skills in recognizing patients presenting with cardio-pulmonary conditions, the parameters of presentation, and understanding its effects on the individual physical therapy patient/ client evaluation, diagnosis, management and prognosis.  Participants will be expected to recognize when a cardio-pulmonary condition is a red flag or needs referral to physicians and specialists and to be able to make management decisions that are in the best interest of the patient/client.  This course is for licensed physical therapists who are intermediate to advanced learners in the field of orthopedic manual physical therapy.
